Banned Books.

I know, most people hate books. Oh well.
Anyways, I know our blog was supposed to be the braindead blog, but not the DEAD blog. So, I thought I’d revive it with a magical post from muah.
Guess what? It’s banned books week… Whee. I had never realized so many books were banned because they were considered bad for children. Several of the Shel Silverstein books were challenged or banned. Apparently books where a girl doesn’t take out the trash is considered rebellious. Some books were banned/challenged since a character died. I don’t know about you, but I think kids need to learn life isn’t all puppies and rainbows.
There’s an estimated 24k books that are banned each year by schools. I mean, if some parent can just go up to a school and say, “I think this book is screwed up, let’s take it off the shelves and make it unavailable to everyone, blinding them and leading them on to believe what I want them to believe!” Anyways. I know not everyone’s like that. But we’re entitled to our own opinions.
So.. Yup, that was my little post for the day. And I’ll try to post more for our nonexistent readers. Well, anyways, off to the shower and then I’m hitting the sack.

I had a discussion today. I’ll try to remember it to post it here, this isn’t going to be very accurate though.

Classmate: Hey, what are you reading?

Me: H.P. Lovecraft stuff…..the book was a gift from my parents, you know, for our school graduation. (I’m in elementary school, by the way.)

Classmate: So, you like to read?

Me: Mmhm.

Classmate: Same here, though I never have time to read. Hey, have you heard of Twilight?

Me: Yep. Never finished the first book…..

Classmate: You should, it’s amazing! I read the whole series this year.

Me: Oh, sorry, I don’t really like romance novels.

Classmate: Oh, well….do you like vampire books?

Me: Sure, I guess, I’ve read Dracula, I guess I should read some Anne Rice stuff….but I’m lazy….

Classmate: Then you should read the Twilight Saga! It’s about vampires and stuff, it’s good.

Me: But I heard it’s not that good.

Classmate: Well, yeah, it’s not the best book ever created, but still. What genres of books do you like?

Me: I don’t really care, I’ll read anything that’s good.

Classmate: Well, what genre is the book you’re reading?

Me: Oh, you mean Lovecraft’s short stories? Um….he writes horror, science fiction, weird fiction, stuff like that.

Classmate: Horror? Ugh….I’ve never been interested in that stuff. You really should read something better like Twilight, in my opinion, romance beats horror anyday.

Me: Uh….okay then. I might finish it later.

So I was just wondering, what is good literature? I mean, I’ve always liked the stuff I read. But all my classmates don’t even know who H.P. Lovecraft (I wonder if they know who Bram Stoker is….) is, and most of them consider Twilight as good literature.

1st question that I want answered: What is good literature?

2nd question that I want answered: Should I read Twilight?

So, school’s almost out, and state testing’s done, blah, blah, blah. I hope the teachers don’t cry or anything on the last day of school. And one more cheesy memory or reminiscing session and I may just puke. How’re things with your school? Did you like your teachers? My homeroom teacher tends to blow up more and more often. She screams shut up at us now. How delightful. No wonder she doesn’t have a boyfriend. Jk, she’s alright, I guess.

Also, is there tons of drama at your schools? Since, tons of kids here date and break up, make up, yaddie-yahhh. Stupid romance. We’re in effing middle school. Must we truly date at this point in our lives? We’re not even sure of the meaning of love quite yet. I’d enjoy some peace and quiet. No more rumors and gossip. Gawsh, middle school is a big pain in the butt. And I thought that third grade was drama.

Anyways, there’s a qoute instead of a phrase, sorry it’s unoriginal. Hm. Haven’t blogged in a bit. Well, if we’ve got a single reader, has anyone heard some decent—*stabs Ke$ha*—songs. Sorry, just had to interject with that action…. *Sigh* If you’re reading this, I would like you to get your butt off this blog. Just kidding, but yeah. I hate her songs. I mean, I won’t judge Ke$ha herself. Yet. Just kidding, again. *sigh* My friend tells me that her little six year old sister listens to that song…. *dread* THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END!!!!!!!!
